Making Money With Google AdSense on Blogger

Before you do anything, you should learn a bit about what Google Adsense is. Go to this AdSense Info page for an overview. Basically, here is how it works:

Your first step in making money with Google AdSense on Blogspot will be to create your blog with some useful content. Pick a topic you either know a lot about or are interested in and are willing to learn a lot about. Use the tool at http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com to find “power phrases”. For example, I typed in “help” and got the results shown here that revealed that math help was heavily searched. So, knowing a fair amount about math, I decided to create a blog offering math help. I then created a “mathy” template using Artisteer that had some nice navigational tabs to organize my content for users.

Next, I created some content. Enough posts to barely fill out the site anyway. You need your site functional in order to apply for Google AdSense or any type of affiliate program. Once you have a functional site and are approved for AdSense, you are ready for the next step.

You can have an ad show up below your most recent post by clicking on Monetize, as shown below.

Now, pick an ad format. I would suggest that you choose the single ad below each post. Then insert one or two more ads using a Google AdSense Gadget. (Instructions follow)

Now, add one or two more ads using AdSense Gadgets, as shown in the following screenshots. I like this method better because it allows you more flexibility in moving your ad blocks or changing the colors. But, the Gadgets do not allow you to place ads between posts. So that is why I suggested to use the monetize option for the first ad. What is very nice about either the monetize or Gadget option is that they match the ad colors to your theme automatically!

First thing to do is choose the Customize option.

Now, add a Gadget where you want the ad.

Choose the AdSense Gadget, as shown below.

Pick the size ad you want and click Save.

That’s it!  The AdSense code is added, as shown below! Now, if a visitor clicks on an ad, you make money! A word of warning however – never ever encourage your visitors or friends to click on a Google AdSense ad as this is a violation of the terms of service.

This looks great, but it is a bit skinny. No problem. Just click on the edit icon next to the ad, as shown below. Then choose the wider ad. (160 by 600) instead of (120 by 600).

All fixed!  Now, you can add another Adsense block in a similar manner. I would suggest another on the opposite column. When all is done, you will have a blog looking something like the one shown below – lots of opportunities for clicking and making some money!
