Step 3 – Set up Blog
Once you have a domain and hosting and it is correctly redirecting requests to the host, you can set up your blog. The procedure shown below assumes a HostGator hosting account, but the procedure will be similar to other hosting accounts.
Step 1 – Log into your Control Panel. With HostGator, if your domain is mybrandnewgreatdomain.com, then if you enter http://mybrandnewgreatdomain.com/cpanel, you will be taken to your log in page.
Step 2 – Scroll down to Fantastico, as shown below. Select it.
Step 3 – Select WordPress, as shown below.
Step 4 – Select New Installation, as is shown in the screenshot below.

Step 5 – Fill in the information, as is shown below. Note that by leaving the Install in Directory box blank, your blog will be installed in the top level. So if someone goes to yoursite.com, they will end up on your blog (I would recommend this). Otherwise, you blog can be installed in a subdirectory that will be created. Write down your User Name and Password!
Step 6 – Click on Finish Installation. That does it!
Step 7 – You will see a screen like the one below. Bookmark the address. Click on the link to go to your blog. Remember: You can always log in to your administrative panel of your blog by entering http://yourblogname.com/wp-admin.
Step 8 – Install needed plugins. Three plugins that I consider a must are the All in One SEO Pack, wp-spamfree, and wp-db-backup. See installing essential plugins for instructions.
The hostgator chat support is great! I usually only have to wait a few minutes to get my questions answered! No long phone waits or email tag.
