Step 1 – How to Get a Domain

Step 1 – Get a domain name and register it. You can do this at Godaddy.com, or you can register a domain for about the same price at namecheap.com. At namecheap.com, first create a (free) user account. Write down your User Name and Password that you choose.

Then, see if your domain that you want is available, as shown below. You should have several options in case your first choice is taken.

Proceed through the check out process. Use the Express Checkout option. Otherwise you will get bombarded with all kinds of offers. You only want the domain registered!

Enter accurate contact information (this is important and required for proper registration), proceed to checkout, enter payment info, and check out.  A screen similar or identical to what is shown below will appear.

Your next step will be to get hosting. Then, you will come back to NameCheap (or Godaddy) and you will enter what are called DNS settings, a very simple task that  directs all requests for your web pages to your server.
